Barry’s House Rides at The Inner Cycle Beverly! Sunday, June 12th!

barry's houseNext Sunday, June 12th, the IC will be hosting a fundraiser at our Beverly studio that is near and dear to my heart. This year, my younger brother celebrated his 6th year of being sober. We grew up in a loving, warm, family environment with great friends and family in Beverly Ma.  Unfortunately, sometime after High School my brother became hooked on opiates.  Who truly knows why?  The point is, addiction can happen to anyone.  Good people, from good homes- your neighbor, your friend, your husband, your brother.  The scariest part is that it is happening everyday and unfortunately our community is getting hit hard.

I am so proud that Joel is now sober, successfully living his life and trying to help others that are going through what he went through.  The company that Joel works for, Baystate Recovery Services, provide full service Intervention and Sober Escort services for families, treatment centers, and treatment professionals.  They are now in the process of opening “Barry’s House,” a structured recovery home for men right here on the North Shore in Beverly, Ma in which they will be having their own fundraiser for on June 18th- click here for more details.  Please take a few moments to read Joel’s recent post which helps to explain why a Sober House is so important to our community:
“My name is Joel Filadoro and I am lucky enough to have been working with Baystate Recovery for the past year or so. Last week I was away on vacation in Texas with family for my fiance’s sister’s wedding. It was an amazing week with friends and family full of laughter and celebration. While we were there, I was able to be present and a part of the celebration, I was able to be helpful and mindful, I was able to be of service to others, and enjoy myself at the same time. While down there I received a voicemail from one of my best friends that simply said, “Hey Joel, congrats on being sober for 6 years, I love you.” It never even occurred to me that it has been over 6 years since I’ve struggled with active addiction. It’s because my life is so full at this point, my life has purpose and meaning, and I’m able to enjoy that life. I don’t have to worry on a day to day basis about drugs and alcohol anymore.
I’ve been able to live a life free from the active disease of addiction, and I owe a lot of that life to the places where I was taught how to live again. The Rehab Facilities and the Sober Houses. The tools I learned while living in that Sober House for the first 7 months of my recovery process were vital in being able to lead a successful life again. I was given the opportunity to succeed and that is exactly what we are trying to do for our community here in Beverly.
Being able to be apart of the team here at Baystate Recovery has been an amazing experience in itself. Working side by side with people who are as passionate about providing a safe and structured road to recovery is all I want to do, and I’ve been able to do that here. What we are trying to accomplish here is to create a safe place to give people the same chance to succeed that we were all given.
The opening of Barry’s House here in our home of Beverly is the best gift that we can give back to the community we came from. Six years ago I never would have believed that my life today was possible. I am able to say that I love my life today, and that I am working hard to help people who are in the same position I was in to be able to get to that point as well.
Please consider taking a few moments to visit our page and learn a little more about what we are trying to provide our community with. Opening Barry’s House is a true team effort and we are going to need all the support we can get. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I wasn’t able to get where I am today on my own, it takes a lot of love and compassion from everyone to help us recover.”
We are so lucky that Joel was able to recover and be apart of our lives once again, however I know that there are many others out there that are not as fortunate.  The Inner Cycle would like to kickstart Barry’s House fundraising the only way we know how- on the bikes!  Please come ride with us on Sunday, June 12th to help us raise money for such an amazing cause.  We have two rides on the schedule right now but would love to add more if there is a need!  Suggested minimum donation of $15 at the door, and free to sign up online.  There will be food and beverages in the lobby, along with some awesome raffle prizes after your ride.  Rumor has it, Joel will even be making some guest appearances on the IC Stage!  Grab your bike now and help welcome Barry’s House into our community!
